The VLX 100 bifold door is an accordion-style aluminum system that folds panel by panel to open an entire wall. When it’s closed, you get a clean sightline and a tight thermal barrier. When it’s open, your living room, kitchen, or patio becomes one continuous space. Product Overview – VLX 100 Bifold / Folding Door

The VLX 100 is built for one thing: a wall-to-wall opening that works every day, not just when guests come over. It’s the door you buy when a sliding glass door feels too restrictive and you want the whole back wall of the house to disappear. In West Palm Beach, that means a direct connection to pool decks, covered lanais, and backyard entertaining areas. The accordion-style panels fold flat against the jamb, so you lose almost no interior floor space when the door is open.

The frame is extruded aluminum with a wall thickness of 0.098 inches and a profile width of 2.56 inches. That’s a substantial section, and it’s why the door carries itself without sagging or flexing. Aluminum also means the door won’t warp from humidity the way wood doors can in South Florida’s wet season. The powder-coated finishes won’t blister or peel, and the stainless hardware is rated for repeated use, not occasional use.

Buyers choose this series when they want a modern architectural look without custom-millwork pricing. It reads as contemporary, but the finish selection lets it sit comfortably on a Mediterranean-style house or a midcentury ranch. We’ve installed the VLX 100 in homes from Flamingo Park to Northwood Hills, and the reaction is always the same: the room feels twice as big once the back wall opens. For a product this good, the installation has to match. We’ll get into that below.

Performance Features

Thermal Efficiency – The VLX 100 uses a thermal break in the aluminum frame, which stops heat from conducting straight through the metal into your air-conditioned interior. In West Palm Beach, where summer runs from May through October and the air conditioner runs harder than anywhere else in the state, that break matters. It’s NFRC-rated, so you can compare its energy performance side by side with any other door.

Acoustic Performance – Everything you do keeps the outdoors out. Laminated and tempered glass options help reduce noise from Boca Raton traffic, neighbors, or a pool pump running late. If you live near a busy corridor, we’ll steer you toward laminated glass. It’s a simple upgrade and worth every dollar.

Airtightness & Weather Seal – All perimeter joints are sealed with AAMA 812 low-expansion foam and an approved exterior silicone. Installed correctly, the door is airtight. No drafts, no whistling during hurricane season, and no dust from construction sites.

Waterproofing – Every door we install gets a sill pan and a continuous weather barrier. We test the sill and threshold after installation with a water test. If water can get in, we fix it before you ever notice. This is the step that separates a one-day install from a proper one.

Wind Resistance – The VLX 100 is wind-load rated for South Florida conditions. For homeowners in West Palm Beach who want more protection, we recommend the impact-resistant laminated glass option. It’s engineered for high wind pressure and meets the coastal code requirements that apply here.

Security & Hardware – The locking system is multi-point, with stainless steel hinges and roller assemblies that handle the weight of the door panels. The hardware is concealed where possible, so there’s less to clean and fewer places for corrosion to start. All hardware is accessible for adjustment, which is a sign of a well-engineered door.

Color & Glass Options

There are six finishes for the VLX 100. Premium Black and Pure White are the most requested for modern and contemporary homes in West Palm Beach. Black frames in particular have become the signature look for new builds and renovations along Flagler Drive and in the South End. Anodized Silver is the quiet choice if you don’t want the frame to compete with the view. Bronze and Champagne read warmer, and they sit comfortably on Tuscan or Spanish-style houses. Teak Wood gives you the warmth of a wood-framed door without the maintenance.

For glass, start with clear or Low-E. Low-E keeps UV and heat out while keeping the view honest. Gray Tint and Black Tint cut down glare and add privacy during the day, which makes sense on west-facing walls that take full afternoon sun. Tempered glass is standard for safety code on doors, and laminated glass is the upgrade for impact resistance and sound reduction. If you want the strongest option for hurricane season, laminated is the one to specify. We’ll walk you through the code requirements for your specific opening when we measure.

Installation by Lightwell Windows West Palm Beach in West Palm Beach

Lightwell Windows West Palm Beach installs the VLX 100 exactly as ViewLux intended: level, plumb, square, and watertight. That sounds basic, but it’s where most bifold door installations in West Palm Beach go wrong. The biggest bifold door on a house is only as good as the sill it sits on. If the framing isn’t right, the panels bind, the locks don’t engage, and the door gets harder to operate every month.

Our process starts with a pre-installation inspection of the rough opening. We check the framing, the floor level, and the existing weather barrier before any panel gets hung. If there’s a framing issue, we fix it or tell you it needs to be fixed. We don’t install over a problem. On install day, the frame goes in level and square, shimmed and anchored to the structure, with AAMA 812 low-expansion foam on every perimeter joint. We follow the AAMA 2400/2410 standard from anchor placement to final sealant, which is the same standard required on commercial projects. After the panels are hung and adjusted, we run a water test on the sill and threshold, check the locks, and adjust the rollers so every panel glides without dragging. Then we clean up like we were never there except for the new door.

West Palm Beach has specific wind and glazing requirements under the Florida Building Code, and impact-rated glazing is required in many areas east of I-95. Our team is experienced with these requirements, and we’ll confirm what your home needs before the order goes in. Most importantly: a professional install keeps your manufacturer warranty intact. If the door is installed incorrectly, the warranty is void, plain and simple. That’s why we’re the partner ViewLux recommends for the job.

Frequently Asked Questions – VLX 100 Bifold / Folding Door

What is the lead time for the VLX 100 Bifold / Folding Door?
The lead time is typically 4 to 6 weeks from final measurement and order confirmation, depending on glass type and finish. Custom sizes and impact glass can add a week. We’ll give you a confirmed timeline when you order. Call (728) 203-1160 to get your project scheduled.

Does the VLX 100 qualify for energy tax credits?
Energy tax credit eligibility depends on the specific glass package and the NFRC ratings for your configuration, plus current federal and local incentive programs. We’ll provide the performance data for your quote so your tax advisor can determine eligibility. It’s worth asking about when you call.

What warranty comes with the Bifold / Folding Door?
The VLX 100 carries a manufacturer warranty from ViewLux, and a proper installation keeps that warranty valid. As an authorized partner, Lightwell Windows West Palm Beach honors the warranty process and handles the design responsibility for the door system. We’ll review the written warranty terms with you before you sign anything.

Can I customize the size?
Yes. The VLX 100 is custom-manufactured to your opening, up to 20 feet wide, in 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6-panel configurations. There’s no stock sizing. We measure the opening on site and order the door to fit it exactly.

How do I maintain aluminum frames?
Wipe the frames and tracks with mild soap and water a few times a year, and keep the track clear of debris. The powder-coated finishes don’t require painting or sealing, and the stainless hardware is corrosion-resistant. We’ll show you what to check when we hand over the job.
